Setting up Attribute Types
Attributes added to Vesta via custom attribute fields in the bulk upload process will sync to the PIM. You can also add attributes within the PIM Lite App as per below steps.
You would have received a PIM Attribute-type spreadsheet from the Vesta team to populate to help with the attribute set up in the PIM as well.
Attributes in the Jasper PIM are fields that can be used to power search applications, organize data for internal use, or display specialized assets on product pages. They are a place to store all your custom data points.
How to create an attribute:
- Navigate to Configuration on the left side menu, click Attributes, then Attributes below.
- Click Create Attribute in the top right corner.
- Enter the name of the attribute.
- Choose an attribute type from the available list. (see below)
- Click Update.
Available List for Attribute types:
- Simple Text - best used for single word or short sentence attribute, can also use Text Area
- Text Area - larger strings of text
- Date
- Select Box¹
- Multiselect Box¹
- Markdown²
- JSON²
¹If you choose Select or Multiselect Box, you will remain on the attribute edit page and be asked to pre-populate the values. These values can be edited or reorganized as long as the values are not assigned to products. To maintain consistency within the PIM, once an attribute value for a select box or multiselect is assigned to a product, it cannot be edited or removed until the values are removed from the products.
²The markdown attribute stores markdown formatted text, and the JASON attribute stores JSON formatted text. These follow special publication rules.
You will now be on the Attribute edit page - this is where you will update the following information:
- Slug - this is the text key used to identify the attribute; it must be unique. It is typically the name of the attribute in lower case, replacing all spaces and special characters with underscores. Please note: slug is required for many PIM operations using attributes
- User Key (optional) - external identifier
- Length (optional) - limits the maximum number of characters for attribute
- Note (optional) - internal description/note of the attribute
- Publish Y/N - choose whether the attribute is internal use only or publishable to channels
- Sort Order (optional) - controls the display order on the attribute edit list (this can also be done using Sort Attributes Button from the Attribute list page)
- Is attribute filterable on the product index page (checkbox) - An advanced feature that allows you to pre-fill search results based on an attribute value. It is unchecked by default
- Republish related products (checkbox) - An advanced feature; it is unchecked by default
Attribute Sets
Attribute sets are used to group attributes together to assign them to a product individually or multiple products in bulk. This allows quick configuration of the appropriate attributes for a given product or group of products. Attributes can exist as part of multiple attribute sets.
How to create Attribute Sets:
- Navigate to Configuration > Attributes > Attribute Sets from the left side menu.
- Click Create Attribute Set.
- Fill in the name.
- Click Create.
You will now be on the Attribute Set edit page - this is where you will update the below fields:
- Slug - this is the text key used to identify the attribute; it must be unique. It is typically the name of the attribute in lower case, replacing all spaces and special characters with underscores.
- Sort Order - controls the display order on the Attribute Set list
- Attributes - use this to search for and assign all the attributes to the set:
- Search for the name of the attribute
- Click it to add it to the set, repeat as necessary until all relevant attributes have been added.
- Click and drag using the left icon on each attribute to reorder them to your preference
- Click Done
- Navigate back to the Details Tab and click Save Attribute Set
Assigning Attribute Sets to Products
Individually / Per Product
- When you are in a product page, navigate to the right hand menu to Attribute Sets.
2. Click Add More, and search for a set.
3. Click to add the set, and then click Done.
Bulk assigning Attribute Sets
You can add or remove attribute sets in bulk by navigating to the Products tab, select all or some products and clicking on the bulk menu at the top right corner.
Display Groups for Attributes
Display groups are a great tool to manage your attributes internally. It allows you to edit the detail of a group of attributes at the same time.
Your Attributes can only belong to a single display group. The attribute tab on product pages will contain a collapsible list of all the display groups that contain attributes assigned to the product. This allows you to store large numbers of attributes on the product while maintaining an easy and intuitive workflow when assigning or editing values.
How to create Display Groups:
- Navigate to Configuration > Attributes > Attribute Sets from the left side menu.
- Click + Add Display Group inside the dotted line box.
- Fill in the name.
- Click Save Name.
Adding Attributes to a Display Group
The Display group edit page is a drag and drop editor. Search for the attributes you want to add from the left side search bar and drag them one by one to the groups you want. All changes can be made at one time - simply click Save Display Groups in the upper right to confirm. You can change the Display Group that the attribute is in by dragging it to the correct group name. If you want to remove the attribute from the Group entirely, drag it to the left side list of available attributes. Click Save Display Groups to finalise any changes.
To delete a Display Group, click the red and white trash can icon on the display group and click confirm. Click Save Display Groups to confirm.
Click on the Channel Set up (e.g. BigCom) link for the next step in the process.
